Meet Simply Rad!

For those who haven’t heard me ramble excitedly about my new project, allow me to introduce to you: Simply Rad.

THE STORY:

It was a damp February morning. I got up and did my regular crawl of Craigslist for web and artistic work…. when what to my heart’s delight, I spotted an ad for a lead vocalist. I don’t know what inspired me that day to look under musical classifieds… but I did, and the ad was there.

It was a very talented 80s band who had just lost a very talented lead singer. My heart skipped a beat! I wondered if I could get in, if I auditioned. Not 6 months before that I had been brainstorming about forming a band just like this…but the task of finding the musicians, space and time seemed daunting. I put it on the back burner. This, however, lit a fire under my proverbial ass.

So… before I could rationalize myself out of it, I was typing a response to the ad. I did my homework and listened to the band’s mp3s, and they researched me too. Could it be true? The band members all seemed sane, had jobs and dedication to the project too!

Several emails, a phone call and 2 auditions later, my hopes and dreams came true! They told me I was their choice!

THE BAND:

The band members are of Diana Brigham (keys, vocals, harmonica), Tim Nolan (guitar), Caleb Cook (bass, vocals) and Matt Cote (drums)…. and li’l ole me: Serena Andrews on vocals. We have quite an elaborate setup with a beautiful sound system, Diana’s layers upon layers of 80s-esque keyboard sounds all wired into a setup with a laptop and even a keytar. Tim’s guitar setup is amazing, with all your favorite sounds from Van Halen to new wave and pop. Caleb’s bass is fat, bouncey and totally danceable… locking tightly with Cote’s drumscapes.

THE AWESOME:

We’re finally practiced enough (with me as the new singer - they already knew the songs!) so that we could whip up a demo. Below are some snippets of our work for your nostalgia-induced pleasure!
